Open Water Swimming

What our customers are saying...

Training for a long distance, marathon or English Channel swim can be a daunting experience. Hours and hours of required practice, trouble finding pool time, crowded lanes, add to that the problem of finding open water, especially if you are landlocked, so you can acclimatise to the cold-water conditions of the British climate.

By adding an Endless Pool to your home or garden the problems of driving many miles to find some outdoor water is solved. Swim whenever you want, at the temperature you want. During the winter months set the temperature higher and as spring and summer approaches, lower the temperature (or turn the heater off entirely) to help acclimatise to the temperature predicted for your open water swim.

While swimming in the Endless Pool you can tirelessly tweak your stroke seeking greater ease. The combination of the current and our floor mirror on the bottom of the pool give instant and unmistakable feedback on stroke efficiency and technique. If an adjustment results in reduced resistance, you can instantly hold your place in the current, with less effort and a slower stroke. By improving your efficiency you are rewarded for swimming with the lowest energy cost - on a channel swim improving your stroke can make the difference between reaching France or having to stop.

Without flip-turns or laps to count, your focus is distilled to the pure essence of each stroke. This breeds a level of un-distracted focus, which can prove invaluable in long races, helping you keep attention on executing each stroke well, even when the number of strokes rises into the tens of 1000s.

The lack of interruption for walls and turns - and the consistency of the current speed - means that when your stroke is good, you can continue "grooving" it into muscle memory until your stroke rhythm remains absolutely consistent. Both are huge benefits in swims that last from one to several hours.

Finally, the pool offers the convenience of being able to swim anytime you want without having to travel to a local pool. You can swim for an hour or two before heading to work. While swimming, many customers use MP3 players to listen to music, books - even swim technique podcasts!
